happy halloween

Happy Halloween!

I am so excited that today is finally Halloween! There is nothing better than baking apple & caramel cookies, (like the ones pictured above that my roomie Jessica made last night!), watching scary movies, decorating your apartment for fall, carving pumpkins (or painting them like my roommates & I did!), eating chocolate covered everything, & dressing up.

Some of the decorations came from Bed Bath & Beyond, like the place mats! The ones pictured are on sale now for $1.39. They compliment our apartment colors--purple, orange, and creme! Our candle holder came from our good friend Lina's garage sale and fits really nicely on our dining room table.

Onto the pumpkins! This Halloween we went to a pumpkin patch (you can see that post here) and had so much fun picking out our pumpkins together. In my opinion, fall is the perfect way to spend quality time with the people who mean the most to you. We picked out these pumpkins and painted them with white acrylic paint as a base. I also painted an "A" on the front of my pumpkin and added some gold circles. My roommate Nicole painted "Happy Fall" onto her pumpkin and added a beautiful purple design around the top. Any craft store will have acrylic paints and paint brushes!

The large platter that sits on the table in our living room was painted by my other roommate, Jessica. She spent a lot of time on this art piece and it turned out fabulously! I am very excited that we have the perfect place for it in our apartment. For the season, we have three cute mini pumpkins placed on the platter along with some purple accent beads.

The tapestry hanging on our wall is a new addition to our apartment decorations. Our walls are so long and they were white and empty until my roommates found this tapestry. We hung up some fun orange lights (Target, $12) just in time for Halloween. Make sure you read the recipe for these amazing caramel apple cookies! The original recipe link is included, as well as the ingredients list and directions.

I hope you have a fantastic October 31st and celebrate it in good fun with your friends and family! I look forward to blogging about the holidays this year. I hope to read your posts about your traditions for this season, too! Leave me a link to your blog in the comments.

Friday Beauty Faves 10-24-14

ONE//
TWO//
THREE//
FOUR//

Hello lovely readers! Happy Friday to you all. This week I bring you my current favorite beauty products that I have recently tried and love. There are only four this week, but these items have definitely been overused which made them important to talk about.

This product and brand itself is very new to me. I had always seen these products in Target and CVS in the more 'upscale' shampoo isles and ignored them because they didn't fit my budget at the time. I finally received a sample of the SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo 13 flz and tried it out last week! From the small sample I tried, I loved the smell. One of the things I look for when buying new shampoos/conditioners is how potent the smells are and whether or not I can handle the lingering smell. This one smells super natural and just like shea butter lotion. What I especially love about this shampoo is what it does to my curly hair. I usually have knots and tangles in the morning, but while using this shampoo every other day, my curls have been restored and are manageable! This shampoo priced at $9.49 at Target was definitely an investment because I am used to spending no more than $5.00. This product is natural, too! It has sea kelp, argan oil, shea butter, is sulfate -free, and is color safe which is great for over-processed hair (like mine!)

fall nail colors are where I bring out my favorite dark shades! This Essie polish is a dark maroon. Essie is known for their easy coat application and this one is no exception. The color glides on smoothly and you are left with a great rich color after about three coats that has lasted me for about two weeks. Plus the name of this nail polish is "Wicked" which coincides perfectly with Halloween! $8.49 at Target for this one!

I have used this product for a few months now and I love how it works! I love how it is paraben-free and hypoallergenic.  I have been trying to incorporate more natural products into my skin and body care routines, and this St. Ives Body Wash Purifying Sea Salt is an example. The texture of this body wash is similar to a scrub--fine beads that work into a soft lather. It says it "smooths and renews" skin so that's a plus. I also use this product in place of shaving cream! It creates a creamy lather before turning into a foamy one, so it works nicely for it. Get it for only $3.49 while shopping online at drugstore.com!

This final product that I have to include in my Friday Favorites list is the Detoxifying Black Cleanser by Boscia. I got a sample of this product from my local Sephora and heard great reviews about other Boscia products. This black cleanser seemed interesting because I love charcoal products already! Online it has four stars and that seemed promising to me. I tried it out during my nighttime skin routine and found that it did warm up on my skin like it said. I like rich products so the thickness of this cleanser made me happy. I felt the product washing away at the dirt and makeup on my face and it left me feeling clean. At $28.00, it is not a complete bargain but if you get the samples like I did you can test it out before you purchase.

purple lipstick review and outfit

I love wearing lipsticks in deep purples and plums for the fall. I think it's the perfect season to pull it off. Some of my favorites include Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick Matte, Kate Moss 107 . This lipstick is a great matte formula and it was my favorite dark lip color last fall. The one I am wearing in the pictures above is Wet n Wild "Ferguson Crest Cabernet". I purchased this Wet n Wild lipstick a month ago and I am experimenting with it all October.

I tried it out the first day I got it and was amazed at how nicely it complimented my pale complexion. It is difficult to find the right shade of purple for my skin tone without looking too overdone. The texture of the lipstick is smooth and very moisturizing. The finish is not matte but rather a shiny and rich look. If you want a lighter approach to darker lipsticks, I suggest this pick, Rimmel Lasting Finish, Kate Moss in 08

trip to the gardens

Top: Old Navy // Shorts: Forever 21 (similar
Shoes: H&M (on sale in store) // Bag: NY&Company (similar below)

This weekend ended with a random trip to the Maclay Gardens State Park in Tallahassee. The gardens are beautiful. The day we visited was the perfect weather. The lake was so vast and the flowers were so unique. The pathways were nice and a great place to stroll.

The tank top I am currently wearing is a favorite of mine. When I want to be super casual I usually wear my Old Navy tank tops. This one in particular is one sale for...wait for it..$1.99 ($10.00) ! I recommend stocking up on these tank tops because they are great for layering underneath long sleeves and jackets and perfect to store for the summer!

My bag and shoes are a recent purchase. The crochet shoes I am wearing were from H&M (similar here, similar here). They were on sale for $2.50. This trend is very popular but I never bought any type of crochet shoes before, so I was excited to find out how cheap these were and how comfortable they are! I wore them all day Sunday and at school today. My bag is from NY&Company and only cost me $10.00 ($52.00) (similar here).  It fits everything. My camera, my Michael Kors wristlet, my phone, bottles of water, and my cosmetic bag. I take the title of 'crazy bag lady', but hey, at least mine is super cute and cheap!

fall 2014 scarves

One (similar) // Two // Three (similar) // Four (similar)

One //. During my last visit home, I went to Burlington Coat Factory in Tampa. Prior to that Saturday I had never been to one before! I will definitely be returning again because I found some crazy deals. While shopping, I found this adorable black Michael Kors scarf. With the winter season in mind, I decided to purchase this scarf for the price of $16.99 (regularly $58).

Two //. This blue and purple scarf with pom-poms is from Cotton On. The store was having massive sales and all of their older scarves were marked down to $5.00. That price was just what I wanted to pay, so I picked myself out this beautiful one!

Three //. When American Eagle was having their huge end of summer clearance sales, I jumped at the chance to score some great buys. This scarf is a pretty floral mix with bright pink fringe at the ends. It cost roughly $8.00 after its original $25 price tag.

Four //. This gray and white scarf is from NY&Company. I loved how light the material is! This type of scarf is perfect for people who live in areas where the weather might be chilly but not necessarily time to break out the wool scarves. This scarf cost $6.00 because it was marked down from $22.95!

I added in some pictures of the price tags of my newest scarves to show you how affordable these items were! I might do that from time to time because I feel like that makes my posts more realistic and not just me going on and on about finding good deals, but actually showing proof makes the posts feel legitimate! taylor swift look for less

Here is my take on Taylor Swift's look from September 17, 2014. She has great style, and I envy her outfits because they are always girly and chic. She changes her looks every few years and I am currently obsessing over her bohemian and retro wardrobe. I loved her Free People dress ($88), Ankle boots from & Other Stories ($95), Dolce & Gabanna Miss Sofia Textured Leather Bag ($2895), a hat similar to this Urban Outfitters one ($39) and bright lipstick. This outfit was so perfect for fall! I wanted to recreate it at a more reasonable price.
Total Outfit Cost: $3,117

The look I created via Polyvore includes items at a much lower price point:

H&M dress ($6) // Forever 21 Faux Suede Booties ($35) (similar here) // H&M Wool Hat ($12.99) // Maybelline Lipstick ($7.49) // Lori's Shoes 7Chi Two Snap Crossbody ($48.95)
Total Outfit Cost: $109

pumpkin patch

Top: Rue 21(similar) // Shorts: J.Crew // Earrings: NY&Company // Hat: Aeropostale
Nails: Essie 'Wicked' // Lipstick: Milani // Bag: Coach

Today my friends and I went to a pumpkin patch! As much as I wish it was colder out, the temperature was up to 90 degrees today. I tried to get into the spirit of fall and pretend that it was 70 with this outfit. My J.Crew shorts are online for $29, and in the store I purchased them for cheaper because I used my Student ID (15% off!) and the clearance was an extra 40%. I have a post about J.Crew looks and included these shorts in it! Once again I wore my Old Navy loafers and some more earrings that I got for $6 from NY&Company. A floppy hat from Aeropostale finishes this fall look. My lipstick is a Milani color which lasted a while without a need for re-application. It is a bright pink and smells like watermelon which is always a plus. We all picked out pumpkins and now are in the process of painting them. Check back for more fall looks and activities!
