denim on denim

Kendra Scott Rayne Necklace in Mother of Pearl
{a Rocksbox purchase, on sale from $80 to $52}// Jack Rogers in Platinum

Let's start with the obvious question you may be asking: "Amanda, why are you wearing a denim jacket AND denim shorts!? Isn't that a fashion faux pas!?". Well, before you second guess my fashion tips, denim on denim has been a huge deal lately! I've actually seen it all over Pinterest {follow me here!} and fashion blogger Chiara from The Blonde Salad frequently dons this look. I wanted to try it out and I created this look really fast! What I believe is the key to pulling off such a daring look is having two different shades of denim on. My shorts are a lighter wash than my jacket, for example. That way you avoid looking too matchy-matchy! What do you think--would you ever consider wearing denim on denim!? Let me know!

pink & pom-poms

Victoria's Secret Top {sale $5, similar $14} // Pom Pom Shorts {plato's closet $8, similar $16} //

I found this simple pink long-sleeve at the New York outlets during my vacation. It was a bargain for $5.00 and it is such a soft shirt! The v-neck is also flattering and even in the Florida heat, this top is loose and airy so I don't feel like i'm dying outside! My new white and floral pom-pom shorts were a great find at my local Plato's Closet {seriously see if you have one in your area! I shop there so often because I find the trendiest things there}. The outfit is girly, sweet, and fun! I wore it out for shopping and dinner with my sister. Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day.

makeup monday: current july faves

current makeup faves

e.l.f. blush & bronzing duo // l'oreal true match lumi 'rose'// revlon matte balm 'elusive' //
maybelline instant age rewind concealer // e.l.f. blending brush

Happy Monday, friends! Today I am posting an update to my current makeup favorites. During my stay in New York, I visited a fabulous mall that had tons of upscale stores which were great to browse in but nothing could prepare me for the excitement I felt when I found the E.L.F. Cosmetics Store! I use a ton of e.l.f products and I was beyond thrilled to shop in an actual store full of things I had only ever seen online! I picked up quite a few things and these are two of my favorites right now.

The Blush/Bronzing Duo was a steal at $6 {definitely a dupe for the Benefit 'Hoola' bronzer and the Coralista blush because I own those two products and find similar results}. During my vacation I didn't want to pack my bronzers + blushes because I have them in a large Christmas set so I decided to try this duo out and used it every day! The pay off for both products is great. I do recommend applying the shades in natural light so you don't go crazy, as I found myself applying more than necessary for a healthy glow!

The True Match Lumi Blush + Highlight in Rose was a purchase on a whim in Ulta that I made on vacation. Does everyone shop on vacation as much I do!? Maybe not. But somehow I manage to let myself buy items that I wouldn't usually buy back home. I tried this out because I had just bought a blush/bronzer but I wanted to have even more glow to my face! The $12 wasn't exactly a bargain to me but I said, 'Why not?' and gave it a whirl. I did end up liking the overall glow it gave to my face, but with this I would suggest adding more for a full effect. I will also try to find a better was to apply it because my stipple brush did not work well for me! Despite all this I do like the color mix of light pink and a bright white highlight to wear just on top of my cheeks during the summer for a little extra glow.

Revlon is my favorite for matte balms, and the Elusive shade {$7} is just the right amount of purple/pink for me! For my lip colors, I usually stray away from the super glossy look because it wears off so fast and distracts people when I talk to them! I love the matte balms like this one because they glide on smooth, give great color pay off, and don't need to be re-applied as often as other {cheaper} balms that I've tried.

Concealing my dark circles is something I have to do every day, so I keep using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Under Eye Concealer/Brightener to keep my face looking fresh and ready for the day. The product is only $6 and is a purchase I make again and again because the results are always what I want to see. My only trouble with this product is that it is difficult to remove at night! Other than that I give it a high rating and have no other complaints.

If I could afford to buy really nice makeup brushes I would invest in some of those Sigma ones, but until then I will continue to hunt for great alternatives! I  think I scored when I picked up the e.l.f. ultimate blending brush. I wear Bareminerals foundation alone or on top of my liquid foundation, and this brush makes it so I don't need to use as much product! That way I am saving product and preventing the unfortunate cakey look from occurring. I would compare this brush to the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush {$7} because they have a similar look with an "ultra firm and broad" brush.

That's it for today's edition of Monday Makeup Favorites! Thanks so much for stopping by & make sure to check me out on other social medias below!

white & blue lace

Long time no outfit post! I hope you enjoy this new look. The weather has been far from sunny in Florida but I finally got the chance to take some pics the other day! This outfit combines some of my favorite things--a casual white top, and the color blue! This skirt is a midi skirt which is a style that is between casual and formal. I bought it at Forever 21 for under $15, but I found other great options that you can look at below! I recently purchased this Kate Spade satchel at an outlet mall in New York. It was such a great find! I only paid $103 for it and it retails for just about $350. The classic black color and the dual handles make it such a nice investment piece. I have been wearing it around my city all week to do my errands, eat dinner, and go to the movies. The long strap also makes life easier because I can swing it over my shoulder. My white Keds are getting some use, too! I could have also worn some heels with this look to dress it up, but if I'm wearing a dressy skirt I like wearing a casual tee with sneakers.

stripes & green skater skirt

Over the weekend we visited the Vanderbilt Estate in Centerport, Long Island. The place was massive with beautiful rose gardens and buildings filled with family history. We also walked around a local town called Huntington, where I stopped at a smoothie shop and ordered a grapefruit, apple, celery, mint, hemp seed, & cucumber drink. Stripes are a summer classic, and my cropped tank is from Charlotte Russe {this one is similar for $16}. My green skirt is newly purchased from Forever 21. They had an additional 50% sale so it was only $3.99! I love the skater skirt style because they go really well with different types of tops. I am still obsessed with these sandals...I linked them below and they are under $25!

winery visit

We visited the Long Island Wineries and this is the outfit I wore during the day. We stopped at two different ones-Pindar {which has this amazing sunflower section!} and Duck Walk. I have on a classic white tank top {$2.99} with some lace crochet shorts {$17}. My shoes of choice for this day were my worn-in Birkenstock copies I bought at Bealls for only $20! They have been super sturdy shoes for my entire trip. I've worn them for quite a few days now and they have given me no problems. Once again I am donning my blush pink sunglasses because they are honestly in my new favorite color and they are the first pair of sunglasses I reach for! I hope you have enjoyed my last few outfit posts while I am on vacation. We leave for Florida tomorrow evening, and I have had a blast this past week. We saw a Broadway play, participated in Paint Nite, walked along beaches, visited local towns, went to NYC and ate a ton of food, and did some major shopping {more details soon!}

palm print

The other day we made our way to Captree State Park where they have deep sea fishing boats and a casual restaurant. I wore my new palm printed shorts {on sale for $14!!} from Old Navy and a matching Old Navy tank top in army green {I scored 4 of them for $2!}. Now that my hair is getting redder because I've stopped dying it blonde, I really like wearing shades of green to make it more noticeable. I also have on my new Lokai bracelet and my Jack Rogers in silver. I am loving these blush pink sunnies that I am wearing, too. They are similar to the expensive Thierry Lasry ones {$435} that inspired me to find my own version.

girly pink dress

Thrifted Dress {similar $38}// NY&Company Earrings {similar $5} // Jack Rogers Sandals

Hello friends! Over the weekend I celebrated my cousin's graduation from high school here in New York. I chose a two-tone pink dress with pockets that I picked up last week for only $4 at Plato's Closet! This dress was super bright , girly, and easy to wear. The v-neck and the cinched waist details appealed to me because it gave the dress a nice shape! My earrings were gifted to me from my sister and some similar geode ones can be found here for under $5. I also got my nails done and I am wearing Watermelon by Essie. It is a fun summer shade and the lady next to me at the salon almost chose to get the same shade because she also loved it. Make sure to follow along as I vacation in New York ALL WEEK! new york vacation: outfit one

For my first New York look, I wore a white tank top (only $4!) and denim vest (from Target $9) because we were going to visit the Fire Island Lighthouse and the weather was warm but breezy. My clothes were very neutral so I added my favorite inexpensive Charming Charlie tassel necklace (I bought it for $6, but this very similar one is $2.99!). My shorts are boyfriend style, so they are loose and baggy and were only $10 when Old Navy was having a huge sale last week for the 4th of July. Check back for more looks all week!
