all about the gray

Bag: Kate Spade Saturday
Happy Friday, friends! The dress I am wearing in this post is actually from the men's section of Forever 21...I think it is supposed to be a long t-shirt but the material is so nice and it is long enough for me to wear as a dress. On this particular day the weather was very pleasant so I wore this t-shirt dress with a matching gray fringe infinity scarf. Instead of a statement necklace I threw on the scarf to keep me warm! Overall this look is simplistic enough for school yet chic enough to wear to evening events.

how to prevent oily hair

Over the weekend I was at Aveda and I discovered that they had a service called a scalp camera consultation. My hair gets super oily because my scalp is dry, so it overproduces oils to help fight the dryness! It is so strange to me but I now understand my hair type so I can treat it properly. I've had my fair share of hair issues over the years, and just recently I've put together a routine that works best for me and my lifestyle! So before I share my top go-to products here is a little more about my hair history...

This is a photo from my very first ever blog post! My hair was dyed blonde here back in July of 2014 and very long

My hair was still blonde throughout the rest of 2014

This is my more natural hair color. My hair was not healthy though, look at those split ends! I was slowly letting the blonde fade away.

Ah, summertime! My hair was getting suuuper long at this point and was also just not looking its best. So eventually I made the decision to...

Chop it off! And I am so thrilled that I did. My current style resembles the infamous "lob" cut where your hair  is shorter in the back and gradually gets longer toward the front. I've been getting my hair treatments done at Aveda since I was in high school. My hair has never been healthier and more manageable than it is today. I have not dyed my hair since going blonde 2 years ago and I think it is for the best. The dye just made my hair feel so brittle and damaged and I think my natural color suits me best.

The Shampoos
Avalon Organics Strengthening Peppermint Shampoo // I purchased my first bottle of this product at Whole Foods while grocery shopping. I came across this product on a beauty list of top favorites for people with oily hair! I decided to try it out because it was also recommended to me by the cashier as her favorite shampoo. This shampoo is very nice for clarifying the hair and removing excess build-up. The smell is also great because it is a refreshing peppermint.

Aveda Invati Exfoliating Shampoo // This is what I just bought over the weekend after my scalp camera experience. The camera showed me that I have dandruff and a dry scalp, but because my scalp is dry it overproduces oils which leads to become oily. Crazy, right? The salesperson suggested I pick this product up to use in conjunction with my scalp benefits products for even more build-up removal. I used it over the weekend and haven't shampooed my hair in a few days because it hasn't felt oily yet! It also has salicylic acid in it which fights oils on your skin, so it must be great for your hair! So far the results have be wonderful and I hope to use this product on days when my hair feels really greasy.

Aveda Scalp Benefits Balancing Shampoo // A huge, major thank you to two of my best friends for buying this product line for me for Christmas because my hair life has changed for the better! This shampoo does exactly what it needs to in order to get your hair feeling clean and stripped of just enough oils to feel refreshed. It also helps eliminate dry, itchy, flaky scalp issues that my hair type seems to always give me. At $21, it really is a great investment because it will last you months and does wonders to your hair and helps get to the root of the problem (ha ha...hair joke ;)

The Conditioners
Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment // This is my holy grail strengthening treatment for my damaged hair. It helps heal your hair from all kinds of damage--heat styling, chemical processing, environmental exposure, and more. It is left on for 2-5 minutes and it will no doubt leave your hair feeling silky smooth! I use it once a week after shampooing to give my hair a little boost of protein to repair the damage.

Aveda Scalp Benefits Balancing Conditioner // This is the second step to my hair routine after I shampoo. This conditioner helps me maintain my oil-free hair and leaves my scalp feeling moisturized. Since I chemically treated my hair, it always felt dry and brittle until I started to use good conditioners like this Aveda one.

Aveda Shampure Rosemary Conditioner // This product has 25 pure flower and plant essences to help nourish your hair and make it look anew. It definitely leaves my hair looking shiny and soft. It is the first Aveda conditioner I purchased after my most recent hair cut and have been using it for months now. The minty rosemary smell lingers on your hair after you get out of the shower and is something I love about Aveda products.

floral leggings in winter

 Scarf: Forever 21 {only $5.90} // Leggings: Aeropostale {$9.60 similar option} // Bag: Forever 21 {similar $15} // Shoes: Platinum Jack Rogers

Normally I would save the pastel pinks for Spring, but this winter I've become addicted to wearing blush pink tones. This outfit has some great finds from Old Navy, like this pink sweater and super comfy fleece-lined vest in gray. These leggings have both gray and pink in them which perfectly coordinates with my sweater/vest. My Aero leggings are not found online, but I did come across these Joe Fresh ones for $14. Or these H&M leggings are being sold for only $7.00. Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I hope you have a great week ahead!

white and brown poncho

Necklace: Kendra Scott Stone Tassel 'Rayne' in Mother of Pearl // Leggings: Charlotte Russe Thick Fleece Lined leggings {only $8.99!} // Sandals: Platinum Jack Rogers

This is one of my favorite casual looks to wear to school. I found this brown and white poncho on sale at a local Tallahassee boutique for $10 last year, and couldn't wear to wear it out for the winter. On this particular day the weather wasn't too cold so I could pull this outfit off without freezing. I also need to let you know about these fleece leggings--they are $9.00 and are the best! I always find myself grabbing these leggings first thing in the morning when I am deciding what to wear because they keep me warm all day long at school. Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I am currently back home for the weekend where the temps are in the 60s so I'm looking forward to spending some time outside! new at the drugstore spring 2016

New at The Drugstore 2016
1. NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette // 2. L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation
3. Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Foundation // 4. Revlon Colorstay 2-in-1 Compact Makeup and Concealer Foundation  // 5. NYX Wonderstick Highlight and Contour // 6. Rimmel London Brow this Way Sculpting Kit

1. NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette $19.00 - forget about contouring for a minute, have you heard of strobing? Basically it's a new beauty term in which one uses a lot of highlighter to accentuate the high points of your face. See the illustration below! I saw this new trend circling around YouTube and this palette looks like NYX's affordable version of achieving the best strobing effect with 7 unique shades to look bright and luminous!

2. L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation  $16.99 - not a huge fan of this price for a drugstore foundation, but I am willing to try it out because it says it has fresh buildable coverage. I also like the idea behind this product where liquid foundation is kept in a cushion so you can bounce a sponge on it and not have to worry about all the foundation spilling out of a jar.

3. Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Foundation $10.99 - I love Maybelline foundations a lot, so I am interested to test this one out to see if it does indeed 'hydrate' your face like it says it will! It is also a gel-whipped foundation that works for normal to combination skin types.

4. Revlon Colorstay 2-in-1 Compact Makeup and Concealer Foundation $12.79 - I watched Tati from YouTube {here is the exact video!} do a first impressions video on some new Revlon products and she loved this one a lot. She even said she was going to wear this foundation the day after trying it out! I instantly saw visible results on her skin when she applied it with a brush. It gave serious coverage and it also comes with a concealer in what looks like a lighter shade. I am very interested in this product and I hope the lightest shade Ivory is not too pink for me!

5. NYX Wonderstick Highlight and Contour $13.60 - this product promises to conceal, highlight, and contour with its creamy stick application in order to define your facial features. I like the idea of having both a highlight and contouring shade in one product for everyday use.

6. Rimmel London Brow this Way Sculpting Kit $4.49 - brow kits are something I own way too many of, but something I love trying new versions of! Eyebrows are very important facial features that I never knew needed to be taken care of on a regular basis. I used to never fill in my brows...or pluck them...until about a year or so ago. This kit looks so nice-it is not only under $5 but has two different shades to get just the right color.

SHOP THE DRUGSTORE PICKS:

cheap old navy finds

Old Navy was having some incredible deals over the past week! They were having a Buy 2 Get 1 Free Clearance sale...and I found some amazing things for both the winter and spring. This blue v-neck that I am wearing in this outfit post is one of my purchases. It was only $5.47! My puffer vest is another great Old Navy buy because it is currently marked down to $24.00. I love that it is gray, too, so it matches a ton of my clothing for the winter. My black boots have been worn all week to school. I couldn't find my exact ones, but these $23 ones are nearly the same! It's pretty chilly here, near the 30s on most mornings, and along with my favorite fuzzy socks they have kept me hurrying right along class after class.

SHOP THE LOOK:

plaid poncho

This fall, ponchos were everywhere I looked. I wanted to dabble into this trend because I felt like ponchos would be another fun accessory to work with. I found this one from Wal-Mart while buying my new glasses and had to buy it for its $13 price. I like the plaid inspired print and the different colors it has in it. Keeping it simple with a gray v-neck and some ripped jeggings, I also wore my favorite winter combat boots that I purchased a while back from Aeropostale.
